The Council of Convocation of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Rita Akosua Dickson, marking its first formal engagement with university management since its induction.
The meeting, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s office in the Main Administration Block, provided a platform for discussions on staff welfare, governance and institutional development.
Chairperson of the Council, Hannah Vivian Osei, described the visit as an opportunity for constructive engagement.
“It is a privilege for members of the Council of Convocation to be received by the Vice-Chancellor, and we welcome the opportunity this visit affords us to engage meaningfully on pertinent issues relating to the welfare of staff and the overall advancement of the University.”
Key issues raised included plans for a State of the University Address, unresolved allowance concerns, the need to resource a secretariat for the Council, and the involvement of convocation members in the ongoing review of the University’s statutes.
Prof. Dickson welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the engagement. She urged members of convocation to support the process to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor, stressing the need for continuity in leadership.
“The office of the Vice-Chancellor can be a solitary one. Well-meaning colleagues and members of the university community often hold back from reaching out, assuming that one’s schedule does not permit it. Visits such as this one are, therefore, not only appreciated but invaluable.”
She also encouraged the Council to sustain such engagements with incoming leadership.
